In the spirit of Thanksgiving, please share your gratitude for someone who helped you become a reader. Did this person make reading an exciting part of the school day or your home? Did he or she introduce you to wonderful books? Were you a struggling reader, and this person opened your eyes to the world of reading?
My dad was an excellent storyteller. He would read books to my sister and me almost every night. I remember one particular night when he grabbed a stuffed animal. He gave it a silly voice to accompany a character, and he jabbed it into our faces to make us giggle. It really made the book come alive, and we asked for that stuffed animal to be apart of our nightly reading for many, many nights to come. I perceived reading as a fun way to spend my time, and I embraced reading all sorts of books as I grew. Thank you, Dad, for nurturing my love for reading!
My Mom intrested me in reading when I was in kindergarten! When I was in Barnes in Noble in the summer of 4th grade I got interested in the Kingdom Keepers series!I read all five books and I'm rereading them now!i can't wait for the 6th book! The 5th book was like it had a cliffhanger at the end!hopefully the 6th book will be finished and published soon!

DeleteMy Dad,my Aunt, and my teachers were the one's that inspired me the most. My Aunt would read to me all the time because she wanted to be a reading teacher . She was the one that had me reading Percy Jackson at 3rd grade.Because of her, reading was never an impediment for at school.
ReplyDeleteKari Collins
I love your use of our vocabulary! It made me smile after a long day, so thank you.
DeleteHi everyone! Its Christa Ross and people that have helped read are my mom, my g-ma, my cousins, and my teachers and friends. My mom would read to me when a I was about 12 months old and now I love to read. Also some friends from school such as Regan, Richelle, Shalese, and CJ have told me about that make me just want to throw my book down and the one they're telling me about.I know this is a long one so I will stop. Anyways THANKS guys! Also, thanks Mrs.Thomas for teaching me great vocabulary words.I even found peddler and verdict on the SRI test. Sorry seriously I will stop now!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Christa! I want those vocabulary words to be relevent, not just something you memorize and never see again. Also, you seem to have wonderful people in your life to support your reading goals. Tis the season to be thankful:)
DeleteHi Mrs. T ! Last time I mentioned my Aunt was a helper in reading but my Dad was too. He pushed me to do quiz bowl a lot of years .He's still bothering me about doing it this year . Which I don't consider that a bad thing because he's trying to get the best out of my education. He is also teaching me a little bit about the Hobbit and quizing me on it.:D

DeleteHi Mrs.Thomas,
ReplyDeleteWhen i really think about it when i was in the 1st grade i was used to being one of the top students that when a girl named Angela Young had read the most books in the school and had been recognized numerous times for having the most A.R points i got jealous{just a little} so i decided i was going to beat he. By the middle of the year we were competing{only she didn't know about it}. By 2nd or 3rd i almost exceeded her score and i had planned to beat her the following year. Before the year was over i achieved: trying out for Quiz bowl, having the top A.R scores in the class, and went to the library any time it was available. Unfortunately my plan didn't work out when summer was over i became a member of the Godley Station School family. too bad! =D
